Smiths MRO is a sub-divsion of a larger business - Smiths Advanced Metals.
Smiths MRO focuses on raw material support for the global aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul market. Our business is supported by a broad and diverse stock range with a dedicated team that provides outstanding service levels required for our industry.
321 stainless steel is one of the most commonly sourced 300 series stainless steel products for aircraft repair.
The alloy offers excellent intergranular corrosion resistance and superior corrosion resistance in welding areas. The alloy is highly suitable for use in applications where consistently high operating temperatures are present, as the alloy does not require repeat annealing after the fabrication process. 321 is non-magnetic once annealed and may be readily formed or drawn, although formability is not as good as other austenitic stainless steel. The material is referred to as a titanium stabilised version of type 304 stainless.
Aerospace applications include areas where consistent elevated operating temperatures are present. Typical examples include engine parts, manifolds, rocket engines and expansion joints.
321 stainless steel sheets are usually manufactured to the AMS 5510 specification, although some very thin material is dual certified to the British BS S526 specification. Smiths MRO stocks a wide range of AMS 5510 certified sheets, ranging from foils 0.002" (0.05mm) up to 0.125" (3.175mm) thickness.
We support the global MRO market with sheet stock which is ready for immediate supply at a moments notice which ensures your aircraft is back in service quickly. We also add value to our stock portfolio with in-house processing operations where we guillotine your 321 stainless sheets to your specific size requirements.
