Smiths MRO is a sub-divsion of a larger business - Smiths Advanced Metals.
Smiths MRO focuses on raw material support for the global aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul market. Our business is supported by a broad and diverse stock range with a dedicated team that provides outstanding service levels required for our industry.
7075 aluminium offers good fatigue resistance and very high strength, good compressive strength and excellent mechanical properties.
7075 represents a strong, machinable aluminium alloy with superior stress corrosion resistance. The alloy offers a favourable strength-to-weight ratio when compared to steel. 7075 aluminium should be considered for engineering applications where strength is a factor, but corrosion resistance is not a consideration. Although corrosion resistance of the alloy is not so good, resistance is superior to 2xxx series aluminium.
Our product represents one of the strongest commercial aluminium alloys currently available, as is the plasticity of the alloy. Low-temperature strength is another impressive feature. Specific performance characteristics of the alloy vary depending on the temper selected.
7075 aluminium sheets find use in the aerospace and MRO engineering sectors. Examples include structural aircraft parts, airframe production, upper skins and spar caps. 7075 is the material of choice for the latter two examples due to the alloys' high compressive strength. The alloy often finds use in aerospace applications in cladded form, including wing tension members.
7075 aluminium sheets are often certified to the QQA250 specifications but also new AMS specifications, which are superseding the QQA250 specifications as follows:
7075 O Bare to AMS4044
7075 O Clad AMS4048
7075 T6 Bare AMS4045
7075 T6 Clad AMS4049
