6061 aluminium plate is a medium to high strength product offering superior machinability and good resistance to atmospheric corrosion attack.

The material finds extensive use in aircraft manufacturers and MRO support companies producing aerospace structural parts and interiors.

Product Overview

The alloy combines good corrosion resistance, hardness and workability with medium to high strength and medium fatigue strength. Our 6061 aluminium plates perform well in elevated temperature service and benefit from excellent weldability, particularly once annealed. The alloy is highly versatile and finds use in various engineering markets, especially in producing heavy-duty structures.

Aerospace Applications

6061 aluminium is very light and reasonably strong and therefore finds use in aircraft fuselage and wings. Aircraft structures such as airframes also utilise 6061 aluminium and other aerospace heavy-duty applications. Non-structural applications include aircraft interiors. As a lightweight material, 6061 can be quickly finished to give an aesthetically pleasing result and may be formed into different shapes. The alloy also finds use in the production of aircraft landing mats.

Supply Condition

6061 aluminium plate is usually supplied in T651 condition to AMS 4027, although we also provide heat-treated plates to T42 or O condition on request. Our stock range of AMS 4027 specification plates is from 6mm thickness up to 101.6mm (4") thickness.

We also offer in-house processing services for all stocked products, with aluminium plates being no exception. We cut your plates to tight tolerances and offer a fast turnaround. We recognise that our MRO customers need engineering raw materials quickly, and our business is specifically geared to meet these requirements.
