Utilising zinc as a primary alloying element, our 7075 aluminium plates offer impressive strength-to-weight ratios compared to steel.

7075 aluminium plate offers good fatigue resistance and, therefore, finds suitability in aerospace engineering applications and MRO market support.

Product Features

The alloy benefits from high tensile and yield strength and provides superior stress corrosion resistance. The chosen temper dictates the overall strength of the product. The material offers good machinability and workability too, although general welding is not recommended. Still, resistance welding is possible. Gas and arc welding affects the corrosion resistance characteristics, which reduces the alloy's natural anti-corrosive qualities. The overall mechanical properties of 7075 aluminium are excellent.

Suitability

As a fatigue-resistant alloy, 7075 finds extensive use in the aerospace sector, particularly in applications where critical, high strength and fatigue resistance are essential. Typical examples include aircraft structures, fuselage, wings and landing gear.

Our stock range

Smiths MRO's stock of AMS4045 plate is from 15mm thickness up to 125mm thickness. In AMS 4078, we stock from 0.25" thickness to 6" thickness. In plate form, the main tempers available for 7075 aluminium are T651 according to specification AMS 4045 and T7351 according to specifications AMS 4078 – the older AMSQQA250/12 specification applies to both tempers.
