7175 aluminium is a 7000 series alloy used for applications where high toughness and formability are necessary.

The product offers higher strength and toughness when compared to 7075 and finds particular use in the production of Airbus aircraft.

Overview

7175 aluminium plate combines many attractive performance characteristics. High mechanical strength, toughness and improved formability are features, along with improved stress corrosion resistance and high fracture toughness. Material hardening is achieved by heat treatment or cold working. The product is often referred to as a forging alloy and is often formed via die or hand forging. Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is eliminated when the plates are supplied in the T7351 temper; this makes the product ideal for aerospace and MRO applications.

Aerospace Applications

7175 aluminium plate finds use in structural aircraft applications, aircraft fasteners, landing gear and wing tension members. The alloy represents a stronger and tougher version of 7075.

Specification & Tempers

The primary specification for 7175 aluminium plate is ASNA3050 which is produced from 6mm thickness up to 100mm thickness. The temper is T7351, which offers high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. The T6 temper is unsuitable for aerospace applications due to its susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
